Who Qualifies?
The CDCP is aimed at uninsured Canadians with an annual family income of less than $90,000. To qualify, individuals must not have access to a private dental insurance plan.
Additionally you and your spouse/common-law-partner (if applicable) must have filed your tax returns in Canada so that your family income can be assessed for the previous year.
When to Apply?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is now open for
- Seniors aged 65 and over
- Children under the age of 18
- Adults with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023
How to Apply?
Applying for the CDCP is a straightforward process. You can apply through the Government of Canada’s website. Before applying, it is essential to gather the required documents, such as Full name, SIN, Date of birth, mailing address, and list of dental coverage through government social programs (if applicable).

Once you’ve applied and your qualifications are confirmed, your information will be shared with Sun Life. They will enroll you in the CDCP and send you a welcome package. It will include:

- your member card
- your benefit start date
When to Visit a Dentist?
For your services to be covered under the CDCP, you should only book your appointment on or after the benefit effective date included in your welcome letter.
